On November 30, 2024, Cleveland hosted the WinterLand Tree Lighting Ceremony. At the tree lighting were music, food, and of course the special guest, Santa. This event continues to pack public square year after year as the tree is lit in the center of Public Square with a huge fireworks display. On the Winterland CLE website, CSU Alumni Association is mentioned as a community partner for this great event. The day is filled with activities included skating, a live show including Cleveland All City Musical, and a wreath toss. If you missed it no worries, Public Square and Tower City will continue to host events put on by Downtown Cleveland throughout the winter months so make sure to take some time to check out the lights and the ice rink!
If you would rather stay inside, Nutcracker! Magical Christmas Ballet will be performed at the Cleveland Public Auditorium on December 7th, at 3:00pm, with tickets starting at $31.00. Other shows include A Christmas Carol, A Christmas Story, and The Nutcracker which will be running through December 22nd.
For those looking for curated handmade gifts for people on their Christmas list, Home for the Holidays Lakewood runs through December 23rd, 2024 and offers great gift baskets, such as a hot chocolate set. In addition, the Cleveland Vintage Market will contain 25 vendors that will sell vintage items to help you tackle your Christmas list. The date has not been decided but it is sure to be a great shopping experience.
Over at 78th Street Studios, , Cleveland will host a Bazaar Holiday Market on December 14th-15th with over 125 Bazaar artists available on three floors, along with food, a bar and treats to keep you fueled while you browse and shop. Cleveland Bazaar Holiday Market is Northeast Ohio’s longest running indie handmade show and 2024 is its 20th anniversary.
Cleveland is also the host of many pop up Christmas bars! Society Lounge and House of Blues over on East 4th street offer a more relaxed and fun atmosphere while those looking for a little bit wilder of a night can head down to The Flats where XMAS bar has opened in Hi 5. Tower City also has a pop-up Christmas bar that is perfect after taking the kids to see Santa or the Mr. Jingeling Treasure House of Toys Castle or shopping the local stores including Apple Jacks, a toy store with a great antique and new selection.
Outside of Cleveland, the Hudson Christkindlmarkt has become an annual event over the last three years and occurs December 13th through 15th. The Christkindlmarkt will have live music and will extend the operating hours for local businesses in the area. It is free to attend, offers pictures with St. Nicholas and his helper Krampus and you can get a drink from the Christmas pop-up bar.
Further outside of Cleveland, Castle Noel in Medina is America’s largest Indoor Christmas Entertainment Attraction, containing privately owned collections of Hollywood Christmas movie props and costumes from movies such as “Elf”, “The Sauta Clause” and more. Whatever your plans and wherever you go for the upcoming holiday season, Ohio has options for everyone in, near, and outside of Cleveland.
